A new year is here already. With each new year, many resolutions are made. It is always exciting creating goals that you want to accomplish in the new year. I am a list maker, so I love any chance that I get to create any sort of list. Following through with the resolutions is another story! I am guilty of having good intentions, but not accomplishing all of my resolutions. Most of them continue from year to year and are always the same….workout more, read more, blog more…etc. This year I am trying to set more specific goals for myself, otherwise I realize they will never get done. I have a pretty busy schedule with several different jobs on my plate, so if I just say that I’m going to do “more” of something, it’s not going to happen.
1. Read one book per month
This may not seem like a lot, but for me it will be a huge achievement. I love to read and can read pretty fast, so my “want to read” list is pretty long and ambitious. Possibly due to the fact that there are SO many books that I want to read, I never get around to choosing just one and reading it all the way through. If I can get through 12 books this year, that will be much better than 0 this past year (so embarrassing!). It hit me when I was packing for our family new years vacation this year and I went to pack the same books that I packed in my bag last year! That is not good.
I highly recommend this book. It’s under $10 and seriously life changing! The perfect quick read to start off the year.
2. Blog at least 3 times per week
To be successful at blogging, I believe you need to be consistent! I am definitely not perfect at this. I don’t want to blog 5 times one week and none the next…that just doesn’t make sense and leaves you guys hanging for a week. There are many other areas of my life that have a priority over blogging, so to achieve this, I will have to plan my posts farther in advance. This will be a challenge because I only like to post something on the blog (and especially on Instagram) if I’m feeling it or inspired at the moment. This does not work well when you post on social media everyday. I have pulled a lot of late nights or stopped during dinner to post on Instagram, which my poor husband deals with, but if I plan ahead, I’m hoping to avoid this.
3. Expand my blog network
As with any job, networking is huge in the blogging world! This is hard to specifically measure, but in an effort to network more, I am attending New York Fashion Week in February! I cannot wait for the fun times ahead!! 🙂
4. Practice hospitality once a month
You would think that Luke and I would just do this without having to think about it, but I feel like we don’t have friends over for dinner as much as we should. We stay super busy, so on our free nights we like to stay in and be anti-social and just watch TV. However, I feel like when I look back on 2017 I want to remember the good times and conversations we had. I’m pretty sure that will be much more memorable than the shows we Neflixed.
5. Pay off 50% of my student loans
I would love to pay off all of our debt this year, but even if we put 100% of our income towards it, sadly that would be impossible. That is how large the sum is. Yikes. But we have to take a large chunk out of it this year so we can move on with our lives and finally be totally debt-free in 2018. If (when) we are successful at this, I will be sharing some posts towards the end of the year on how we did it and maybe some financial tips. I am far from an expert in this area, but we will see how this year goes and I can share what we learned along the way and where we had to cut back.
What are your resolutions for 2017? What is your plan to acheive them? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear!
