First Trimester Recap

I keep saying I can’t believe how fast time is flying, but I just can’t get over it! I started week 15 yesterday. Since I didn’t spill the beans until the first trimester was ending, I thought I would go back and share what happened and how I was feeling during all of that time.

HOW I’M FEELING

Currently, I’m feeling great and really have no major complaints. The first month of pregnancy, when I did not even know I was pregnant, I was absolutely exhausted. I was so confused as to why I was tired all the time and it was all I could do to make it through the work days. I was tired throughout the whole first trimester but it gradually got better week by week. It also helped that I had a nice, relaxing two week vacation during the holidays right when I was at my breaking point.

I am hungry all the time and that has gotten worse as the weeks go by and baby gets bigger and bigger. I feel bad for Luke because I get hangry easily! I’ve found myself getting full pretty fast, so I don’t actually eat as much during meals as I used to. Instead, I get hungry every 2-3 hours. I prefer to eat snacks and small meals throughout the day. It is annoying, but I guess that’s best for baby anyways, so I am learning to deal with it and carry snacks! I bring snacks to work to help me make it through the 12 hour shift.

Heartburn has been present everyday, unfortunately, but it was already an issue before pregnancy. The small meals actually help curb heartburn, but I still have to take Zantac and Tums everyday.

One really weird sensation I started having towards the end of the first trimester was ligament pain! I would wake up in the morning and just roll over or stretch in bed and get a cramp in my lower stomach. It felt like I had just done an intense ab workout and pulled a muscle. I freaked out when it started happening multiple times, but after googling my symptoms, I realized that this is “normal” during this time. It really freaked me out though!

HOW I REALIZED I WAS PREGNANT

The first couple weeks that I was pregnant, I had absolutely no idea. I was clueless about the fatigue and just blamed that on work. After about four weeks went by, my boobs got really sore. Like it was unbearable to even hug Luke haha. I had gotten the flu shot recently, so I thought that I was having side effects from that, maybe coming down with the flu, or maybe I was pregnant. A few hours later, I took the test and it was positive! I had already been telling Luke about how weird I felt, so he knew I was taking the test and it was the weekend so he was at home with me. I had always envisioned wrapping up the test and surprising him, but I told him right away. It was still so fun!

PRODUCTS I’M LOVING

I haven’t started using many new products yet except for this stretch mark lotion. I don’t have any stretch marks yet, but I’m trying to prevent them. This lotion is so creamy and amazing. I love that it soaks in and doesn’t leave a greasy residue. My skin has been extra dry lately, so I put it everywhere, even on my legs. I’m not sure if the dryness is from pregnancy, or just from this really cold winter we’ve been having. Either way, this lotion has been a lifesaver so far.

BUMP STATUS & WEIGHT GAIN

As you can see from these pics that I took at the beginning of week 14, my bump is there but kind of small and looks like I just ate too much!! I can’t wait for it to really pop out so that people will know it’s clearly a baby bump 😉 So far, I have actually lost 3 pounds. I’m not sure why because I haven’t been nauseous or sick at all. I thought for sure I would have gained weight already because my blood volume has increased due to baby. I am more aware of what I am eating and trying to incorporate fruits and veggies everyday. I am not the healthiest eater, so I still eat plenty of bad stuff! I guess the small meals are working in my favor. I was not at my ideal weight even before getting pregnant, so I am trying to keep the weight gain minimal while still keeping baby healthy.

Yes yes yes!! So similar! Except replace heartburn with nausea, and I think everything else is the same 🙂 Cute pics! Nice that you have such a great view right outside on your balcony now.
