This past week I did something I have been wanting to do for several years…host Friendsgiving! It ended up being on a much larger scale than I ever imagined. For years I’ve always pictured hosting a small dinner party in our apartment for our closest friends. This year we ended up being host to 50 of our neighbors for a huge potluck in our community clubhouse. We had soo much fun and everyone chipped in to bring amazing food. My friend & I decorated and roasted the turkeys (not as hard as I was expecting).
If you haven’t had a Friendsgiving, I definitely recommend trying it this week and It’s not too late 🙂 Just being able to come around the table and enjoy a meal with friends and neighbors was so much fun. I would recommend doing a potluck style where everyone brings a dish and you only have to cook one thing.
At first, I was terrified of cooking the turkey but I guess I have been traumatized by movie scenes like this one and this one, so I thought something would surely go awry. With so many things to draw inspiration from and I have never googled and pinned so much in my life. Never hosting one before, I did not have the slightest clue how to do it and had to get advice from my amazing mom and mother-in-law. There are a lot of good pins out there on Pinterest with charts that tell you all about the baking time, how to brine, how to carve, etc. I also found a lot of other good inspiration for the Friendsgiving tablescape. Thankfully the turkey turned out pretty great and was very moist, if I do say so myself!
I ended up ordering most of the supplies online. Since I needed to buy everything in bulk, it was cheaper that way, but Target had an adorable Thanksgiving decor section where I found the tablecloths, napkins, place cards, banner, and dessert plates. The dinner plates, silverware, and glasses were all from Amazon.
Have you hosted or been to a friendsgiving before?
