How To Show Appreciation to Your Spouse + a GIVEAWAY
In case you weren’t aware, Husband Appreciation Day is coming up this Saturday the 15th! Kind of random, but I love celebrating any major and minor holiday that I find out about, especially one that gives me a chance to thank someone I love for being so great.
Luke and I’s five year wedding anniversary is coming up this summer. Over the years, we have learned each other’s love language and how to really appreciate each other.
Today I thought I would share a few tips that we’ve learned over our few years!
-
Get to know each other’s love language
I would say this is the most enlightening. Different people feel loved by different things. For example, I like receiving gifts (shocking) and Luke really feels loved when I tell him words of affirmation, or when I build him up. We learned this early on and it really helps. What you think someone may feel the most love is not always how it works out. You can take this quiz to find out what your love language is.

Focus less on yourself
I am preaching to the choir here because Luke spends a lot of time taking photos of me, editing photos of me…me, me, me. But I’ve found that the more I worry about myself and don’t focus on how Luke feels or what would make Luke happy, the more we fight. The more time and effort I put towards him, the happier we both are and vice versa. Little gestures, like packing his lunch or getting him a glass of water while he’s working on homework let him know that I’m thinking about him and that I care. It takes a little thought to be in tune to what your partner is doing and what they need, but it’s worth it.
Marriage is not 50/50. You cannot give 50% effort and expect things to work out well. You have to give 100% of your love, time, commitment, effort, etc. to that other person in order to thrive. They have to as well. Marriage is definitely a two-way street. Sounds cliche, but trust me, it’s true.

Surprise them
Who doesn’t love a little surprise here and there? When I am at work, that is probably how I feel the most appreciated. A nice note from a co-worker or a little gift card for doing a good job goes a long way and keeps me motivated for awhile. Things that are unexpected can make your day. The same goes with your spouse. When you know someone really well, it gets harder and harder to surprise each other. When you pull it off, it is so fun! Husband Appreciation Day is the perfect surprise holiday to really spoil your hubby and they will never see it coming!
Speaking of surprises, I’ve partnered with Buffalo Jackson today to give away a leather wallet, just in time for Husband Appreciation Day! Luke has one of the wallets and he loves it. It holds all of his cards without being too bulky, which are his two main requirements. It is really high quality and probably the nicest wallet he has owned. There is no doubt your husband will love it!! You can enter the giveaway on my Instagram.
I hope you find some ways to show appreciation for your spouse this week and don’t forget to enter the giveaway here!
