1. Roll, don’t fold
I am actually a fan of folding clothes in my suitcase typically. This is when space is not an issue. If my suitcase is becoming filled to the brim, it saves more space to roll them. It also prevents creases from forming on your clothes. Then you won’t have to steam/iron them after unpacking! I will definitely be rolling my clothes when I head to fashion week because I have several dresses that are suede, velvet, or silky materials and they crease easily if folded. I will still bring my mini steamer in case I have anything that does get wrinkled! I seriously love that thing and don’t know what I would do without it.
2. Set aside what you need to carry on (and remember the carry on rules)
I like bringing a large tote bag on board so that I can have all my essentials (and valuables in case checked luggage gets lost) with me. I’ll be toting my electronics in my bag, including my laptop and my back up batteries. Back up batteries are a #1 priority because my iPhone dies so quickly, especially when traveling.
Remember that liquids are not allowed in your carry-on bag unless they are in bottles < 3.4 oz and in a plastic bag. I put my lip glosses and travel perfume in a plastic bag just in case.

3. Use space wisely
Some of the annoying/difficult things to pack are shoes and bags. I am bringing several handbags that take up a lot of space, so I’m rolling up clothes and packing them inside of my bags. It keeps them from getting smashed and that way I don’t have any empty holes in my suitcase.
4. Pack versatile items
It is best if you can get multiple wears out of each item. The more versatile your items, the better. If you have a basic striped tee that can be worn with two different outfits then that’s great. I’m bringing some neutral coats to NY that I can wear over multiple outfits. Coats are very bulky, so the more wears you can get out of one coat, the better.
5. Don’t procrastinate.
I am preaching to the choir here because I procrastinate at pretty much everything in life. Thank goodness I did not procrastinate on my fashion week outfits and I’ve been slowly acquiring pieces over the past two months. I’ve been putting outfits together in my head for a while and I just had to try it all on again this week to see what worked for sure!
Usually I pack the night before or right before I leave for a trip, but thankfully I’ve already started packing and we leave tomorrow morning. I’ll be gone for 7 days and I’m bringing multiple outfits per day, so there is no way I could pack all of that at the last minute (props to you if you could!). I typed everything out into my google calendar so that I would make myself stay on schedule. I planned out the days I needed to shop, pick up items, and then pack, etc.
If you end up procrastinating, your chances of forgetting something is higher and that’s never fun!
