My husband and I recently moved a couple months ago and when we were preparing to move, I knew I wanted a separate area reserved for my blogging office. It is easier for me to work when I have a clean, beautiful space that I enjoy being in. Thankfully, we have an extra bedroom that serves as our office and guest room. The husband and I each have a side of the room with our desks set up. I knew that I wanted all white on my side and his side is all dark brown, haha!
I wanted my desk to be two things: pretty and simple. I have created a list of necessities everyone needs at their desk.
1. A good planner.
If you are going to be working, no matter what your job is, you need a planner! I know everyone has gmail calendars and iphone calendars, but to me, nothing compares to having things written down and penciled in. I can see my month and my week laid out before my eyes at a glance. I have found this to be the best way to keep my life & blog under control. It doesn’t hurt to have a cute planner, either! I’ve used the Kate Spade gold dot planner for the past two years and love them. I’ve also heard wonderful things about these and these planners. And of course, Lilly always has great options.
P.S. I was so excited when I found this little Bloggers Gonna Blog notebook. It’s so cute and under $10!
2. Fresh flowers.
To some, this may seem unnecessary, but I always like having fresh flowers on my desk. They bring life to the room and the smell is amazing too (especially peonies)! Even with peonies, you don’t have to break the budget. They are super affordable at Trader Joes.
3. Coffee table books.
Of course you don’t want to overwhelm your desk with huge piles of books, but I picked a few of my favorite colorful ones to add a decorative accent. My most recent book purchase and favorite one lately is this one.
4. Inspirational quote or art.
I love peonies and I love gold, so when I saw this gold foil peony print a couple years ago, it was love at first sight. I’ve seen it on Instagram a million times, but I will never get tired of it and it’s still my favorite! If you’re going to be spending a lot of time at your desk, you want to look at images that inspire you.
Blogging is not your typical 9-5 job, so a lot of time is spent in the evening hours writing posts, sending emails, researching products, etc. One of my pet peeves is having to squint in the dark and it will give you wrinkles, too! Invest in a great lamp and give your eyes a break. This particular lamp is from Target a couple years ago, but they have several adorable gold options right now.
6. Pretty jewels.
I love to add a little sparkle whenever I get the chance. I definitely could not hang jewelry from my COW (computer on wheels, laptop/mobile desk thingy) at the hospital, so I take this opportunity to let myself have a little eye candy to look at when I’m blogging. I tend to choose my recent favorite pieces or pieces that I grab often so that they are right within my reach.
7. Tools- pencils/scissors.
P.S. I’ve been drinking these Starbucks pink drinks a lot over the past two weeks…they’re addicting! You have to try them. So refreshing. Perfect fuel for the office that doesn’t make you crash later like coffee does.
8. A great, comfortable chair.
Even though this chair is acrylic, it is surprisingly comfortable! It’s under $90, which is a pretty good price for an office chair. It also comes in a version with arm rests, but I like sitting cross-legged, so this one works best for me. My dream office chair would be this one.
Top it off with a cute pillow and your desk is complete!
